Thank you for considering Kushner Moving Group for your upcoming relocation.  In order for your move to go as smooth as possible, please review and follow these important guidelines:

  • Pre-Move Responsibilities
  • Packing
  • How to Pack
  • What Not to Pack
  • Getting an Estimate

Pre-Move Responsibilities:

  1. If you live in an apartment building, it is your responsibility to reserve elevators and/or loading space for the move at both the starting residence and at the new residence. Please let us know in advance if we will not have exclusive use of the elevator.

  2. Make sure everything is packed, securely sealed, and ready to go when the movers arrive. All items must be packed in boxes.

  3. Do not overload boxes.  Boxes should not weigh more than 35 lbs.  By overloading them, the box can break and you risk damaging the belongings inside.  As a general rule, pack heavy items in small boxes and only use large boxes for lightweight items.

  4. Label boxes clearly so movers know where to place them at the new residence.

  5. Empty all items from drawers.  Items left in drawers can break the drawer mechanisms and/or add to much stress on furniture.

  6. Set aside and mark "Do Not Move" on any items that are not supposed to be moved or any special items that you plan to take yourself.

  7. Disconnect wires to televisions/electronics prior to movers' arrival.

  8. Kushner Moving Group does not take down drapery or disconnect appliances, chandeliers, waterbeds, showerheads, satellite dishes, electronics, etc.  Client should disconnect these items themselves or arrange for a third party specialist to service these types of items.

  9. Particleboard, pressboard or Formica furniture: Manufacturers of this type of furniture suggest these items should not be moved.  They are made to assemble just once and are not made to withstand the rigors of transportation.  Due to this fact, it is not possible to guarantee they will arrive in good condition, regardless of how much care is taken with them.  In any case, you can a.) Include these items, but understand that we cannot be responsible for any damage due to the inherent weakness built into this type of furniture, b.) Not include these items in the shipment, or c.) Disassemble these items yourself.

  10. Remove any garbage/unwanted items from your residence prior to arrival of movers - it eliminates clutter when trying to move out.  In addition, you don't want to take any unwanted trash to your new residence.  Kushner Moving Group is not responsible for trash removal.

  11. Before the move, make a floor plan of where you want your furniture placed at the new residence.  Also, keep in mind that some furniture in your current residence may not fit in your new home.  It is always a good idea to measure your furniture and room / doorway dimensions at your new home a few weeks before the move.

  12. At the new residence, always be present to give direction where you would like your belongings placed.

  13. If your building requires a certificate of Insurance, please send the necessary information at least 5 days prior to your move date.

  14. Have the proper form of payment available – cash, money order, certified bank check.

  15. Gratuities – While tipping is not mandatory, it is customary if you are pleased with our services. It is greatly appreciated by our crews who work very hard to transport your belongings safely.

Packing:

Start early. Packing can be overwhelming and can take more time than expected. The first important factor for you move to run smoothly is that you are fully packed when the movers arrive.

How to Pack:

Use small boxes for heavy items and larger boxes for lightweight objects. Be generous with the amount packing paper, bubble wrap, or peanuts that you use. Cushion the bottom of box with crumpled paper. Start by placing heavier items on the bottom and progressing with lighter items toward the top of the box. Wrap any fragile items in paper, and make a cushion around it with more paper. Periodically lift the box to make sure that it is not overweight - it should not be too heavy for one person to lift comfortably. Fill all empty spaces with small items or crumpled paper. Do not leave gaps in the carton -- the carton is less likely to collapse. Continue to fill the box. When you are close to the top, make a top cushion with more paper so other boxes can safely be stacked on top.

What Not to Pack:

Perishables:
Plants, frozen foods, refrigerated foods, open or half-used products, foods without adequate preservation.

Hazardous Materials:
Matches, gasoline, kerosene, propane tanks, oils, cleaning supplies, paints, guns, ammunition, car batteries, chemicals.

Personal Items:
Jewelry, cash, checkbook, financial documents, prescription medicines, keys, airline tickets, new house documents, family photos, wedding albums, insurance policies, medical/dental records.

Getting an Estimate:

Make sure to show the estimator everything that will be shipped. If you want to get a realistic price quote, present an accurate representation of all items to be moved as well as all of the items that will require packing. Our representative can only quote a price based on the items you have indicated will be moved, and the services you agree to contract. If you decide to add items not on the original estimate or there are changes to the delivery conditions (ie. stairs, elevators, long distances), please advise us as soon as possible so we can make the proper adjustments. You know you belongings the best. If you had any problems getting certain pieces into your current apartment, let the estimator know (ie. narrow stairs, large furniture). The estimator will have to take that information into consideration when determining the time it will take to complete your move.
